Artist Statement
A love of Life, People, and this beautiful world is reflected in my paintings of figures and places. The settings plus the interactions between individuals, family, strangers, and friends - both two legged and four legged - intrigue and delight me. Individuals and groups engaged in work or play, exploration or contemplation, or just plain fun in the midst of beaches, on urban streets, the chatter of a cafe or our realizations when we come face to face with Nature shape the forms of Life. The spark of that moment in light and daily life when we reveal ourselves calls to me. The ever changing light on space and color, plus their interaction are my inspiration and teachers. I am constantly learning something new. It is my passion to work with brush and paint, and canvas to reflect this world.
"Let the beauty we see be the work that we do." Rumi
Bio
A California native, Skip's favorite childhood Christmas gift was the extra large, brand new box of crayons 'with all the points on'. That was the beginning. Studies at University of Colorado, Michigan State and Wayne State culminated in a BFA, followed by post graduate work at Detroit's Center for Creative Studies. She has worked in the fields of fabric design and fabrication, graphic design, and interior design. Returning to California and to painting in 1995, she began a focused study of the human figure, portraits and plain air, in oil. Travel became the rich source for both urban and landscape paintings from the western US, France, Indonesia, Mexico, and India. For the last 17 years she has painted directly in plein air and in the studio working from sketches, studies and her own photo reference.
